About Our Mission
The IUCN-SSC Galliformes Specialist Group is dedicated to advancing the conservation and scientific understanding of the world's 309 Galliformes species and 47 tinamou species. Our mission is to assess threats, promote research, and implement effective conservation strategies for these diverse ground-dwelling birds across their global range. Through collaboration with researchers, local communities, and conservation organizations, we work to prevent extinctions, maintain healthy populations, and protect critical habitats. We serve as the primary advisory body for science-based conservation of these species, providing expertise for sustainable management, species recovery, and policy development. By fostering knowledge exchange and building capacity among stakeholders, we strive to ensure the long-term survival of these ecologically and culturally significant birds for future generations.
