Message from the Co-Chairs

We are both honoured and delighted to have been given the opportunity to co-Chair the IUCN Galliformes Specialist Group. As many of you will know, we were founding members and the first two Chairs of the Partridge, Quail and Francolin Specialist Group (one of the fore-runners of the GSG), and co-authors of its first Conservation Action Plan (1995). So we have worked closely together in the past to good effect and are really excited to be able to do so again in the interests of our species. The Galliformes Specialist Group and its predecessor SGs are regarded as being amongst the most active and effective bird SGs in the SSC, and the current Co-Chairs will be hard acts to follow. Over the past 25 years, a tremendous amount has been achieved for the conservation of our species worldwide, thanks to a large and dedicated international network of supporters. We will endeavour to build on this success, whilst collaborating with other SGs where our interests and geographical coverage overlap, in order to maximize the efficiency of our collective conservation efforts.

Guiding Rules and Principles from SSC

The GSG is not a legal entity, but instead part of the IUCN Species Survival Commission.  Our guide as Co-Chairs and Members are outlined in the following documents from the SSC.  We will endeavor to abide by these rules to the best of our ability and provide further transparency by making them available to all Members to assist us in following the spirit and letter of the law.
